Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust Annual General Meeting

Several members of the Mansfield and Ashfield Local Member's Group attended the AGM held at the very impressive Visitor Centre at the Attenborough Nature reserve. For those of you who have not yet visited the reserve it really is a must, especially if birds are your thing.

The formalities were just that, formalities and were dealt with by Martin Suther with speedy efficiency. The only point raised from the floor was the danger to Martins Pond and Harrison's Plantation in the Woolaton area of Nottingham by a proposed housing development on the old allotments. Then followed a presentation of the Treswell Award to Keith Corbett for his work in the Beeston Wildlife Group and his years of effort in establishing the Attenborough Nature Reserve.

Keith and Charles Langtree of the Trust then gave a long talk on the Attenborough reserve "Past Present and Future". Which clearly indicated the amount of work that had been undertaken even prior to the formation of the Trust. It was a great pleasure to be able to watch the birds on the lake whilst Keith and Charles gave their talk.

Before and after the official proceeding there was a sale of books bequeathed to the Trust, this was set to raise a good deal of money on top of the donations already made in his memory.

Two of our members volunteered to become trustees. One Jeune Price was accepted and duly elected, the other Derek our webmaster was not, he was however co-opted onto the Resource and General Purposes Committee.

There are some vacancies still on the board of trustees and it will be interesting to see how exactly the vacancies are filled and where the candidates come from. If some of you reading feel up to the challenge give Paul Learoyd a call at the Old Ragged School. We are especially looking for a new Honorary Treasurer to replace Peter Evans who has stepped down due to ill health after only 1 year.
