Woodlands in Winter
On December 13th Adam Goodall from the Sherwood Forest Trust came along to give us a talk about our woodlands in winter and to explain about the type of work the Sherwood Forest Trust undertakes.
Adam is the Heritage Landscapes Programme Co-ordinator for the Sherwood Initiative and is responsible along with his colleagues for providing assistance and where possible funding for the restoration of historical features of our landscapes for both public and privately owned land.

His talk was accompanied by a series of very beautiful pictures of woodland scenes taken in winter some of which are reproduced on this page (though at a much reduced quality).
He went on to explain something of the biology that happens as autumn turns into winter and the fact that whilst everything may look bare and dormant in our woods there is actually quite a lot happening under the surface. Also its worth taking a serious look at the landscape in winter, where you will be able to spot distant features that you simply cannot see in summer when the trees are in full leaf.
Following the talk by Adam we had mulled wine and mince pies, provided by member of our committee and we had our website on display so that those of us that don't actually own a computer and have internet access could see our latest leap into the 21st Century.
Many thanks and a very merry Christmas to Adam
and the Sherwood Forest Trust and especially to all of those that attended and to the members of our committee that provided the very warming mulled wine and mince pies.
